Beer bread is one of those simple yet satisfying recipes that brings warmth and comfort to the table with minimal effort. It’s a no-fuss bread that requires no yeast, no kneading, and no proofing, making it a fantastic choice for both beginners and experienced bakers alike. The best part? It takes just a few ingredients to create a beautifully golden loaf with a rich, complex flavor.

  • Total Time: 55 minutes
  • Yield: 1 medium-sized loaf 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 350 g (2 ¾ cups) all-purpose flour
  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 350 ml (1 ½ cups) beer
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 4 tbsp butter (or ghee)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 190°C (375°F). Grease a medium-sized loaf pan with butter (approximately 26 x 12 cm / 10 x 4 ¾ inches) and line it with parchment paper.
  2. Melt the butter and let it simmer until golden. If using ghee, just melt it.
  3. Start by sieving the flour into a large bowl to remove any lumps.
  4. Add the sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Mix until combined.
  5. Add 2 tbsp of the browned butter, honey, beer, and lemon juice, and stir until well combined.
  6. Pour the batter into the loaf pan. Drizzle the remaining 2 tbsp of melted butter over the top and score the batter deeply lengthwise with a knife to control how it expands during baking.
  7. Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until golden and a skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Let the bread cool slightly on a rack before serving. Enjoy with butter and a drizzle of honey, if desired.
