Ingredients
Scale
- 800 g (1 lb 12 oz) broccoli florets (no stems)
- 150 g (5 oz) bacon, diced
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 75 g + 2 tbsp (5 tbsp + 2 tbsp) butter
- 2 tbsp (2 tbsp) cooking oil
- 1 dl (⅖ cup) all-purpose flour
- 7 dl (3 cups) full-fat milk
- 200 g (7 oz) cheese, grated
- Black pepper, to taste
- Salt, to taste
Instructions
- Add the cooking oil and 2 tablespoons of butter to a regular frying pan or a deeper oven-safe sauté pan.
- Sauté the broccoli florets until they begin to develop some color. If you’re not using an oven-safe pan, transfer the broccoli to an oven dish.
- Fry the diced bacon until it starts to brown slightly. Add the minced garlic and continue cooking for another minute.
- Add the bacon and garlic mixture to the broccoli.
- In a separate pan or pot, melt 75 grams (5 tablespoons) of butter. Add the flour and stir or whisk to combine, making sure there are no lumps.
- Gradually pour in the milk, stirring or whisking constantly until the sauce thickens.
- Season the sauce with salt and black pepper. Add the grated cheese and stir until fully melted and smooth.
- Pour the cheese sauce evenly over the broccoli and bacon.
- Bake in the oven at 180°C (360°F) for around 20 minutes.
- Serve hot with bread, pasta, or enjoy it as is.
